Up Coming Events:

Poets on X+ at MFA Featuring JOLEE DAVIS

oin us for the next exciting installment of our Spoken Word open mic at MIGHTY FINE ARTS. This month we will be featuring JOLEE DAVIS

Born in Dallas in 1974, Jolee Davis is possessed of a deep passion for writing that has always been an integral part of her being. Fueled by a deeply rooted desire to create, and unencumbered by any inordinate cravings for desire or fortune, she pursues her ideal of creating purity and meaning in her work. Jolee's inner passions have found expression in three collections of her poetry, the first of which, Vicious Cycle, was self-published in 2001, and the second of which, The Path of Desire, was completed in 2003. She has shared her work through readings, open mics, and poetry salons at Insomnia, the Balcony Club, the Cosmic Café, Barnes & Noble, Bill's Records & Tapes (where she served as co-host for a time), Paperbacks Plus (occasionally pulling double duty as event organizer), the Absinthe Lounge, the Good Times Bar, Lucky's Café, the Deep Ellum Arts Festival, and most recently on tour with Amy Weaver.

In 2006, Jolee Davis and Joey Cloudy formed Project 108, a non-profit corporation dedicated to supporting underground poets and artists. Project 108 subsequently took over the publication of Death List Five, a local poetry / art magazine she started with Joey in 2004 and which published many of the spoken word artists featured on this site. Jolee's third chapbook, Self Righteous Cunt, is scheduled for completion in 2010.

The 7th Street Art Corridor

The 7th Street Art Corridor is a precedence setting project that will present original works of public art from 10 Oak Cliff artists. These artists include Gillian Bradshaw-Smith, Ray-Mel Cornelius, Steve Cruz, Chaitra Garrick-Linehan, Brian Jones, Lisa Lindholm, Kevin Obregon, Diane Sikes, Brian Scott and Erik Tosten.

There will also be walls featuring work from elementary students from Rosemont, Kahn, Peabody and Winnetka. The student work will be coordinated by Stacy Cianciulli who also teaches art at Rosemont Elementary. All the murals will be artist generated designs reflecting the art practice and body of work of the individual artists. We hope to encourage pedestrian and bike traffic along this route since 7th Street runs parallel to Davis and goes from Zang Blvd. through Bishop Arts and the Tyler/Davis Art District past the Kessler Theater into Winnetka Heights.

The official unveiling of the murals will be the weekend of April 10 and 11th and will coincide with the Oak Cliff Art Crawl featuring music, food, kids events, art bikes and much much more! Now we're looking for some support! All donations are significant! But we have some perks! $100-$499 lets you attend the special preview party with the artists, $500-$2499 gets your name painted on the donor wall and party invites, and $2500 and up gets your portrait painted on the donor wall! You know you want to be immortalized! Please make checks payable to: GO OAK CLIFF, 821 N.Windomere Ave. Dallas Tx. 75208.

If you want to see examples of the proposals stop by Mighty Fine Arts Gallery, 419 N.Tyler, Dallas, Tx. 75208 or contact steve@mfagallery.com  ph.214-942-5241.
